Lawrence B. Schlachter, M.D., J.D., DDS
Lawrence B. Schlachter is one of the few attorneys in the United States with a professional background that combines neurosurgery, dentistry, and the law. As a licensed dentist, attorney, and board-certified neurosurgeon, Dr. Schlachter is especially qualified to represent patients with injuries and damage to the nervous system, brain, or spinal cord. He represents individuals who have been injured due to accidents, negligence, missed or incorrect diagnoses, or elective surgeries gone wrong.

Dr. Schlachter received his undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York in 1969. He earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1973 and a medical degree in 1976 from the State University of New York at Buffalo. After medical school, he completed a two-year residency in general surgery and a five-year residency in neurological surgery at Emory University and affiliated hospitals.
After retiring from active medical practice following a hand injury in 1999, Dr. Schlachter attended The John Marshall Law School in Atlanta, graduating with a law degree in 2004.
During Dr. Schlachter’s neurosurgical practice, he performed over 10,000 surgical procedures on the brain and spine. He was the neurosurgeon on call for the President of the United States for the Atlanta area. As a neurosurgeon, he routinely performed craniotomies for tumors, aneurysms, and hydrocephalus, as well as laminectomies, fusions, disc removals, and spinal instrumentation procedures. Dr. Schlachter also provided care for patients brought to the emergency room for complex trauma.
As an experienced neurosurgeon and attorney, Dr. Schlachter has a deep knowledge of the standard of care. His training and professional experience allow him to quickly recognize the issues and thoroughly investigate the medical care at issue in each case. Dr. Schlachter is an active member of the Georgia Bar, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
